Your mission: Help engineer and oversee an ironclad IT security strategy that will protect digital products, complex infrastructures, and private data from external threats.

Since launching in 2013, Bending Spoons has served around half a billion people across the globe through our suite of cutting-edge products. Still, we’ve only just crossed the starting line on our mission to make an enduring positive impact on our customers, on our fellow Spooners, and on society at large.

As a leading tech company in Europe, we’re determined to set an ambitious new standard for privacy and security in the tech industry—and beyond. At the core of this critical effort is the team of engineers committed to bolstering our security practices well beyond the minimum legal requirements. And now we’re looking for a determined and passionate IT security and privacy engineer to join the team in this high-priority endeavor.

A few examples of your responsibilities

  • Run security audits, identifying security loopholes and opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of security strategies.
  • Perform internal vulnerability testing, uncovering any weaknesses in the systems and implementing countermeasures to ensure the integrity of all data.
  • Share knowledge with Spooners to ensure data protection best practices and help foster a security-focused culture across the company.
  • Collaborate closely with privacy experts to ensure the most robust and complete privacy compliance strategy possible, and to translate regulations into tech implementations.
  • Stay up to date with security trends and threats, sharing your findings as well as recommendations with your team.

What we look for

  • Passion. You have a genuine love for the field. You investigate the subject extensively and are always up to date with the latest developments.
  • Drive. Your dedication matches the intensity of your ambition. You’re willing to put in the hard work necessary to achieve your goals, and the highly demanding challenges in your track record are proof of your relentless spirit.
  • Accuracy and precision. Your attention to detail is spot-on, and you’re painstakingly accurate. The quality of your output, whether in academia or at work, is consistently pristine.
  • Diligence. You fulfill all your responsibilities to the best of your ability, regardless of how much you like the task at hand. People you worked or studied with would say you’re exceptionally conscientious.
  • A collaborative nature. You can understand others and work well with them, balancing patience and assertiveness.
  • Logical-analytical abilities. You’re able to objectively evaluate complex information, arguments, and situations. You’re used to applying logical deduction to tackle sophisticated problems, and this has often allowed you to solve difficult intellectual challenges.
  • Humility. You’re down to earth, eager to listen to feedback and constructive criticism, and ready to support your team with whatever it needs to succeed.
  • Communication skills. You can pose questions with clarity and explain your reasoning concisely.
  • Proficiency in English. You read, write, and speak proficiently in English.

What we offer

  • Make a difference. Be the owner of your effort—from day one, you’re one of the team and fully trusted to take responsibility for your tasks. You’ll have every incentive to make a major impact.
  • Talented, knowledgeable colleagues. Learn from (and teach) some of the brightest and most skilled people you’ll ever meet. Your talent is going to blossom here.
  • Flexibility and trust. From day one, you’ll be one of the team and fully trusted. No micromanagement or clipping your wings—just the freedom and responsibility to do great work.
  • Continuous education. Spooners get unlimited backing for learning investments, including Italian or English lessons and things like courses, conferences, and books. There’s no permission or approval process—you’re fully trusted to use the company’s resources efficiently.
  • Wonderful HQ. Natural light, silent rooms, state-of-the-art hardware, fun-filled common spaces... the list never ends! You’ll certainly be in the right environment to do your best work. And, when it’s time to switch off, you can do that in style and comfort.
  • Relocation package. If you need to relocate for the position, we typically cover reasonable transportation and moving expenses, provide up to three months of temporary accommodation, and help you and your close family members with visa support if necessary.
  • Remote working. Spend as much or as little time in our Milan office as you choose. Many Spooners like to change up their environment and get out of the city whenever the mood strikes. You’ve always got the freedom to decide where today’s office is.
  • People who lift up one another. We hire for talent and leave the ego at the door. You'll find a group of truly talented Spooners who are eager to teach their secrets and to learn. Reciprocal support and respect is everything—you’re unlikely to ever encounter a more harmonious crew.
  • Flexible schedule. Our regular hours are 9-6 GMT+1, with remote work allowed within GMT-2 to GMT+3 time zones.
  • Competitive pay and access to equity in the company. Typically, we offer an individual at the start of their career a salary of £54,545 in the UK and €52,246 elsewhere. If they possess a few years of relevant experience, the salary on offer tends to be between £66,779 and £149,636 in the UK, and €63,965 and €143,330 elsewhere. Pay grows rapidly as you accumulate experience and translate it into greater impact. You can also receive some of your pay in company equity at a discounted price, thus participating in the value creation we achieve together. If relocating to Italy, you may enjoy a 50% tax cut.

Before you apply

Bending Spoons is a demanding environment: We’re extremely ambitious and we ask a lot of ourselves and one another. While this tends to lead to fantastic learning, achievements, and career growth, it also requires a significant commitment. So if you like the role and are ready to give your very best, don’t hesitate to apply.

The selection process

If you pass our screening, we’ll ask you to take on a few tests that assess how you approach unfamiliar problems. If you’re successful with those, we’ll invite you to a series of interviews. Bending Spoons is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. We consider for employment any applicant and we provide reasonable accommodations for an applicant with disabilities, which can be requested through this form.
